When we were having issues with VNC on our desktop sessions ([see here](https://discourse.openondemand.org/t/interactive-sessions-cant-connect-after-idle/4939)), one of our users was trying to troubleshoot and says they “unselected the ‘encrypted’ check box” after which they saw a red box full of websockify errors.

They have been unable to use desktop sessions since then and can’t figure out a way to reset this. I am unsure how they could have done that because it is always greyed out for me.

I think this is a per user setting but I’ve been unable to help them reset their environment to get past this error. So far we’ve had them delete:

```auto
~/.vnc
~/.config/xfce4
~/.cache
```

This is affecting any apps that use VNC (desktops, Matlab) but not apps like Jupyter. Do you have any idea how I can get this user’s environment back to normal?

Thanks!
Dori

It’s probably on the client side. I.e., if they clear their web browsers cache for your site it’ll likely reset.

Thanks Jeff! After MUCH back and forth with the user, it turns out it’s an issue with Microsoft Edge. I forgot to ask what browser they were using and because it “used to work” our suggestions at trying another browser were ignored repeatedly. 😬
