As many of you are aware, the Global Open OnDemand (GOOD) conference just took place at Harvard from Mar 17-20.
On behalf of Julie Ma and myself, I want to express our sincere appreciation to everyone that participated or made this possible, from the attendees, to the presenters, to our colleagues at the host site of Harvard, to the sponsors, to NSF, to the conference committee, and of course to our colleagues and collaborators.
On a more personal note, GOOD was quite amazing - far exceeding all our modest hopes and dreams for it. Of particular note was all the interactions between people. For example, there were countless times that somebody asked a question of a presenter and if the presenter didn’t have the answer, somebody in the audience spoke up and had the answer.
This clearly marks an inflection point in the life of Open OnDemand and sets us all up for yet more amazing things and the months and years to come!
For those of you interested in seeing details of the content, the majority of the presentations WERE recorded. It’s going to take us a few weeks to process those and get them uploaded to Youtube or another site. In addition, the Conference Proceedings Committee has begun their work of producing the proceedings for the event. Most of the slides and/or corresponding papers will be published on a permanent dedicated website, along with DOIs for them (Our good friends at NumFOCUS are facilitating all this and have a lot of experience doing it - check out https://proceedings.scipy.org/ for an idea of what things will eventually look like).
Again, that’s going to take quite a while, and we’ll announce broadly when it’s available.
If individual presenters are willing to share their presentations outside of those channels (such as on this thread), we’re fully supportive of them doing that.
We’ll start by providing the core Open OnDemand team slides here, with the caveat that it’s hard to understand a lot of the context that was verbally conveyed when these slides were presented.
We’ll also note in particular there are a lot of calls to action for the community in these presentations, and that’s not targeted just at the in-person GOOD attendees, but rather the entire community. We’ll be sending out additional information in the next few weeks re-iterating much of this via our newsletter and other channels.
Us and our colleagues are happy to answer any questions as always!
