Hello all,
We limit Xfce virtual desktop sessions to 5 hours, to prevent users from keeping a perpetual session running (even if by accident!), though they can request less time. A user asked whether there is an easy way to track remaining time.
It does show up on the request card, but the default change to open sessions in the same window don’t make that as convenient, plus even if the session opens in a new window, they need to click over to see it.
To address this, I created an absurdly simple widget that displays remaining session time. It changes color as it counts down (green->amber->red), shows the end time on hover, and displays pushed desktop notifications for attention. All of this (and more) is configurable.
I didn’t necessarily do my diligence, so someone else may have done this before (and if so, likely did it better!). But, it’s available for those who want to check it out.

Please let me know if this has been done better elsewhere.
Warmest regards,
Jason
