Hostname is not case-insensitive

Just ran into a minor issue. I had set the servername in the portal yml to the lowercased form of the hostname, which is uppercase (by convention at my institution). I was unable to use the SSH app unless the hostname was uppercased. I believe DNS resolution should be case-insensitive.

Hi thanks for the comment. A quick google search of are dns a records case sensitive indicates that you’re indeed correct, that A and MX records are case sensitive.

Do you mean CNAME and DNS are case-INsensitive

Now you’ve got me questioning it. I’ll admit that I’m not an expert on networking and I only replied with the very first hit on google.

Glancing at the RFC it does mention case sensitivity, but honestly I can barely make heads or tails of it with the limited knowledge of DNS record types.

Hello,

could you say more about the below please?

the hostname, which is uppercase (by convention at my institution).

can you provide the portal.yml and domain name you’re having issues with?
