Virtual Desktop Crash (and Fix!) on Rocky 9.7

Hello all,

We upgraded to a more recent version of Rocky 9.7, and after doing so, our XFCE virtual desktop failed to launch, complaining about D-Bus errors.

I had to update the launch command from this:

xfce4-session

to this:

dbus-launch --exit-with-session xfce4-session

Up until this update, we were able to launch the xfce4-session bare, with no dedicated D-Bus session. Apparently, on Rocky 9 with dbus-broker, XFCE ends up relying on whatever D-Bus session the systemd user instance provides, and when that broker recycles or another session claims the bus, everything collapses. This was somehow not an issue with our earlier version of Rocky (which was still 9.7), so some change during the upgrade exposed this.

Maybe this will help someone!

Warmest regards,

Jason
